Florence Carr: short-form
12.26 Los Angeles is pleased to present short-form, a solo exhibition by Florence Carr that navigates the liminal space between form and function, and the emotional implications of quotidian objects.
Carr’s assemblages consist of found materials, layered together and stripped of their presupposed purpose. Carr is interested in materials (e.g wallpaper, grilles, flooring etc.) which, despite connoting ornamentalism, still succumb to the process of habituation, and the parallels that can be drawn to one’s fading recollections.
The repeated incorporation of the circle evokes the process of focusing one’s vision and subsequent evocation to uncover a point of clarity within the associations a material holds, as well as a sense of cyclical object trends. Using fabrics that hold personal significance for Carr, the sculptures are a testament to the indelible imprint of formative memories.
Florence Carr lives and works in London. She has previously exhibited with Sweetwater, Berlin (2024) Petrine, Paris (2023) and Stallman, Berlin (2023), among others. This marks her first time exhibiting in the US.
