Conner O’Leary: Now Revealed
12.26 is excited to present Conner O'Leary: Now Revealed. Continuing his exploration of unsettling and mysterious spaces, O'Leary creates haunting liminal environments that feel taboo and off-limits. His paintings evoke an unnerving atmosphere, with objects like a knife, a taxidermied animal or a seemingly abandoned house adding to the overall disquiet. Drawing from personal photographs and collaged elements from found books, O'Leary pays homage to classic surrealism, referencing Max Ernst and René Magritte, yet disrupts the familiar by subtly skewing or stretching parts of his images to create an underlying sense of unease.
Conner O'Leary (b. 1990, Dallas, TX) currently lives and works in Austin, Texas. O'Leary has long favored painting still lives and figurations which meditate on “quiet chaos” and combine observational traditions with Flemish naturalism and symbolism, as well as surrealism, abstraction, and a variety of others. Previous solo exhibitions include Half Gallery, New York, NY (2023) and Martha’s, Austin, TX (2023). His work will be included in the exhibition Long Live Surrealism! 1924–Today at the Blanton Museum in Austin, opening this September and curated by Claire Howard.
