Marjorie Norman Schwarz is known for her signature technique of delicately layering thin oil paint on canvas, resulting in atmospheric surfaces that are both nuanced and dynamic. Schwarz employs water soluble oils, applied in sparring layers, to create pictorial fields that are simoultaneously varied and complex. Her compositions feature overlapping passages of rhythmic hatching, playing against shifting, diaphanous grounds, creating a sense of fragmentation in the space depicted.
