Lee Maxey’s paintings delve into the extraordinary urge of the mind to find meaning in the mundane. Utilizing the traditional medium of egg tempera, her compositions frequently position the subject at or near the center of the picture plane, imbuing them with a weighty, iconic significance. Beneath the surface, a potent undertone of anxiety looms, reminiscent of the restless ticking of a clock in anticipation or the dread of unchanging circumstances. Some paintings capture the eerie, haunting stillness of time, while others reveal its duality, beautifully portraying both the tangible and its reflection.
